Guild for everyone: Green Youth demands equal shooting festival!
The "Green Youth" in Lower Saxony is vehemently committed to the "Guild for everyone" initiative, which aims to break open the sexual structures at the children's shooting festival and to promote equality. In a press release dated June 11, 2025, the continued exclusion of women is pointed out critically, which is sharply condemned by Yola Kreitlow, the state spokeswoman for the "Green Youth". She emphasizes that it is time to open this traditionally male -dominated room and give girls the same opportunity to take part in the shooting festival.
Lukas Kluge, the organization's state spokesman, describes the guild as a sexist structure that promotes a male clerk. This calls for a broad social discussion. The initiative specifically demands that shooting are made accessible to girls at the children's rifle festival. As part of these protests, a demo for Friday, June 13th, from 5 p.m. on the Stellmacherplatz is planned. The campaign is aimed at girls, boys, families and everyone who wants an equal child shooter festival.
Current developments in the Schützengilde
At the weekend, the Wildeshauser Schützengilde will hold a general assembly, in which applications for equal participation of girls are also on the agenda in the children's shooting festival. A corresponding application has already been submitted by 20 rifle brothers on time. In the previous year there was a split opinion in the city society on this topic, which was supported by an online petition that collected 1,500 signatures. However, this petition was dismissed by the rifle guild as "tendentious".
The rifle guild currently has 3,700 members, exclusively men, and is under the direction of the male mayor Jens Kuraschinski. Interestingly, a majority of those present voted at a company meeting in December for the participation of girls, while in the previous year 86 percent were. Heiner Krieger, a former teacher, will bring the application to the General Assembly, regardless of his concerns that he may not find any support.
The social discussion about equality
The problem of discrimination due to gender is far -reaching and not only affects the rifle guild. In sports, like in football, there is often a lack of equal opportunities between boys and girls. For example, it is believed that the achievements of players are rated worse if their gender is known. Associations such as "equaletics" work on the awareness of these inequalities and offer educational offers.
Overall, these developments illustrate the need to review and reform traditional structures in order to ensure equality. The upcoming demonstration and the discussion within the rifle guild are a step in this direction and show that society deals with questions of gender equality. The concerns of the initiatives could be a decisive factor for changes in the future.
