Protests in Los Angeles: escalate raids against immigrants!

This day, June 7, 2025, the US border protection authority ICE in Los Angeles carried out a number of raids against illegal immigrants in which more than 40 people were arrested. This campaign immediately led to massive protests in the city, in which there were violent clashes between demonstrators and the police. Hundreds of people gathered to demonstrate against the arrests and demanded the release of the detained people.

The raids in Los Angeles were carried out by heavily armed and partly masked civil servants, which forced migrants into non -marked vehicles. This led to a tense situation when demonstrators tried to prevent the vehicles from driving away and sometimes threw objects such as eggs. The police reacted to this with the use of tear gas and glare grenades.

protests and police operation

The unrest not only concentrated on different parts of the city, but also in front of a federal court and a prison, where supporters insisted on the freedom of the arrested. David Huerta, the President of the Union Sieu California, was injured and arrested during the tumultuous protests by ICE officials.

The Mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass, expressed sharp criticism of the measures of the immigration authorities and spoke of "terror in our communities". The police declared the gatherings illegal and threatened to detention. Despite the threats, the protests could not be stopped. There were further tensions in front of a warehouse for clothes when officials sought to prevent vehicles with prisoners.

political context

The current events are in the context of the strict immigration policy, which was introduced under the presidency of Donald Trump. Since taking office on January 20, Trump has followed an aggressive line against migrants without a valid residence status. With the so -called “Lakes Riley Act”, the measures against this group of people were further tightened. Trump's vice chief of staff, Stephen Miller, announced that the immigration authority ICE is planning to strive for at least 3,000 detention per day.

This pressure means that migrants are increasingly getting into difficult situations and measures that are directed against them find an echo in many areas of society. Critical voices, among other things from the ranks of democratically ruled states, indicate the inhumane treatment of the deported and appeal to compliance with human rights.

Overall, the recent protests in Los Angeles illustrate the deep split within the US society with regard to migration policy and the associated social challenges. In view of the urgent need for action, the unrest is not only an expression of the protest against the raids, but also a call for help after a fundamentally different way of dealing with immigrants in the country.
