The Borromäum was founded in 1882/1883 and can therefore look back on a tradition over 140 years. The facility had been rebuilt several times over the years, most recently in 1980. In recent years, the after -school care had to accept losses in the middle five -digit range annually, which was tightened by increasing personnel costs and the inability to refinance legal requirements to the personnel structure. From the coming school year, the parents of 20 cared for children between the ages of 6 and 14 will have to look for new care opportunities.

The school center was part of the Borromäum, which was bought in 2001 by Father Jugend- und Altenhilfe GmbH. The building was recently sold, while the GmbH remains tenant of the Horts. The monthly rental costs are 158 euros, but the tenants fight against the challenge of filling the rooms.
