Sulingen: Grandmas against the right celebrate anniversary and demand cohesion!

On Saturday, June 21, the Sulingen initiative "Grandma's Against Right" will celebrate its fifth anniversary on the Neuer Markt in Sulingen. The event, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., includes an information stand and musical performances, including from Insa Bründl, which will play on the guitar. Claudia Zornow, the initiator and spokeswoman for the group, has announced and plans to collect signatures for the preservation of the Family Health Center (FGZ) Sulinger Land. The FGZ is the regular meeting point for the "Grandma", where they gather every third Friday of the month at 6 p.m.

The group currently has 18 fixed members, of which around ten actively take part in the meetings. One of the "grandpas", Erdmann Germer, emphasizes the positive culture of conversation and the support that the meetings offer to those involved. In various actions, for example during the Sulingen spring festival, the support, despite adverse weather conditions, became significantly noticeable. Financially, the initiative is borne by contributions of five euros per and by donations during their events. The group does not receive public funds, which underlines their independence.

commitment to right -wing extremism

The "Grandma's against Right" are part of a nationwide movement that was founded in Austria in November 2017 and later found its way to Germany. According to the initiative Grandmaen against right the goal is to raise a voice against growing right-wing populism and right-wing radicalism. In Germany, the first group was founded on January 27, 2018 in Nagold. In the meantime, the initiative has over 30,000 members and includes numerous regional groups that work for democracy, diversity and tolerance.

The major challenges include the observations that extremist right -wing populism is increasingly trying to undermine civil society initiatives. The group LSVD analyzes the ideology of right-wing populism, which is often directed against LGBTQI*and influences access to social resources. In order to counteract this trend, workshops and conferences are organized to inform about the dangers of right -wing extremism about strategies to defend democracy and to investigate.

planned activities and support of other initiatives

The "Grandma against Right" continues to focus on active commitment and participation in social events. In addition to the anniversary celebration at the end of June, you will also be present at the Sulingen autumn festival on October 12th. A “picnic against the right” is also to take place at the end of June. In addition, the "grandma's" support new initiatives, such as those in Lemförde and Diepholz, as well as protests against the weekly casseroles of the AfD in Bassum.

Claudia Zornow, which always visibly presents itself with the button of the "Grandma", usually receives positive feedback. This shows the high encouragement that the group enjoys in the population. Their attitude is on the ground of the Basic Law and the rule of law, with a clear focus on the exclusion and discrimination against people with a migration background as well as against racism and anti -Semitism.
