Altenburger Land strengthens families: funding for new projects in 2026!

The Altenburger Land district office will continue to focus on improving the quality of life of families in the region in 2026. The state program “Solidarity between Generations” (LSZ) makes it possible to support projects that specifically address the needs of families. The aim of the program, which has been running since 2019, is to strengthen family friendliness, cohesion and participation, especially in structurally weaker areas. abg-info.de reports that non-profit organizations, welfare associations, church institutions as well as cities and municipalities can submit their project applications until October 31, 2025.

The funding is used, among other things, to hire staff and cover material and fee expenses. Investments, however, are excluded from funding. So that as many families as possible can benefit, the projects are based on the specifications of the “Integrated Specialist Plan for Families in the Altenburger Land 2025-2029”, which sets specific action goals for the coming years. Funding is primarily given to projects that deal with the compatibility of family, career and care work, offer educational opportunities for different age groups or enable cross-generational encounters.

An integrated approach for families

The LSZ program has been tested as a model region in the Altenburger Land district since 2018 and has since produced numerous initiatives to improve the living conditions of families. The funding relates to integrated social planning, which is intended to create a needs-based infrastructure. This not only promotes support for families, but also the development of a social infrastructure characterized by dialogue and cooperation between different generations, as explained on the district's website Altenburgerland.de.

The state program also pursues goals with regard to public services and taking demographic developments in Thuringia into account. The program is based on various legal bases, including the Thuringian Family Support Security Act and the Thuringian Act to Strengthen the Participation and Participation Rights of Seniors, to ensure this foerderdatabase.de.

Projects in focus

The funded projects are prioritized by various committees that pay attention to both the established criteria and the priority of the projects. This is intended to ensure that projects with high needs and significance for the local community are selected. To do this, the projects not only have to pursue relevant action goals from the technical plan, but also have to be submitted by October 31 of the previous year. An important point remains that the funding is allocated every year depending on the infrastructure required.

The development of a social infrastructure for families is a central concern of the LSZ program. How the integrated planning is further fleshed out is crucial for future funding. The quality of life in rural areas should be secured and improved through appropriate offers for families. In this way, the future of the Altenburger Land is to be secured and the diverse support for families is to be further expanded.
