A highlight for families is just around the corner in Altenburg! The event will take place on Saturday, August 16, 2025 Family organ day in the Altenburg residential palace takes place, which delights with a program for young and old. It begins at 2 p.m. in the picturesque castle courtyard and the historic castle church, where one of the most important organs in Central Germany, the Trost organ, is the main attraction.
The Trost organ, which was built by Tobias Heinrich Gottfried Trost between 1735 and 1739, not only attracts music lovers, but also offers exciting insights into organ craftsmanship. Families and music enthusiasts can look forward to a hands-on workshop with textile designer Thekla Nowak, where there is the opportunity to print sheet music and musical instruments.

At 5 p.m. the day will conclude with a festive family concert, where the talented organist Victoria Ulriksen and the actor Manuel Struffolino will delight visitors with musical performances. The organizers – Altenburg Museums, the city of Altenburg, the Mitteldeutsche Orgelgesellschaft Altenburg e. V. and the Residenzschloss Altenburg – have put together a varied program that brings families together and ensures unforgettable memories.
A little tip for everyone who wants to set off: the entry price for this colorful event is 15 euros, reduced price 10 euros, and children under 12 years of age have free entry. Tickets are available at the museum ticket office of the Residenzschloss and at the Altenburger Land tourist information office. The Family Organ Day is part of the Altenburg Music Festival, which further underlines the diversity of the event.
In 2025, Altenburg will also chair the Association of European Organ Cities (ECHO). This makes Family Organ Day not only a local but also a national attraction that celebrates the region's rich musical heritage.
