Major construction projects in Altenburg: Street officially opened!
There are some exciting developments in the city of Altenburg that will bring about changes in the coming days and weeks. The focus is particularly on the inauguration of Gößnitzer Straße in Ponitz, which has finally been completed after a long construction period. Mayor Marcel Greunke (CDU) will welcome numerous citizens at this celebratory handover on September 20th. The symbolic cutting of the ribbon marks the highlight of the event, and residents and visitors use the opportunity to socialize and toast the new street. OTZ reports that this is a joyful event for the entire community.
But this is just the start of further projects in the region. From September 22nd, construction work will begin on “An der Pleiße” street and in the Michurin settlement. In the next step, a lot will be done to improve the infrastructure and expand living space. At the same time, construction of a new roundabout begins on Kauerndorfer Allee. This measure is a collaboration between Deutsche Bahn and the Thuringian State Office for Construction and Transport, and there will be some road closures. The northern side of the street on Kauerndorfer Allee will be closed, while traffic will be controlled using construction site lights to ensure pedestrian safety.
Road construction and renovations
In addition, construction work on Uhlandstrasse is imminent. A lot is being done here too: the city of Altenburg, Ewa and Waba are working together on the renovation and renewal of the drinking water pipes and the sewerage system. This extensive renovation extends over a length of 240 meters and is scheduled to last until the end of August 2026. Uhlandstrasse will be closed to vehicle traffic during the work and will receive new sidewalks. All information about the current construction work and traffic disruptions is available on the Altenburger Land website to find.
Overall, the goal of the city administration, as well as Ewa and WABA, is to coordinate the projects in such a way that the burden on road users is minimized. Numerous larger road construction projects are planned for 2025 and will be gradually implemented. The community will be happy to be informed about the progress so that everyone knows where work is currently being done and which detours need to be taken into account. Experts emphasize the importance of these measures in order to improve the transport structure and take growing demand into account.
Cultural highlights and events
Anyone looking for personal exchange has the opportunity to take part in the citizens' consultation hours with Mayor André Neumann on September 22nd. An analog consultation hour will take place at 5:30 p.m. in the consultation room at Kornmarkt 1, followed by a digital consultation hour at 7:30 p.m. on Facebook and YouTube. These opportunities offer citizens the opportunity to raise their concerns directly and enter into dialogue.
Committed citizens are also invited to take part in the 14th meeting of the Technical Committee on September 22nd at 6:30 p.m. in Schmölln. Topics such as the cemetery concept and the renovation of office space are on the agenda. On the same day, the Parkinson self-help group will also meet in the savings bank hall, where Carolin Fallgatter will present the “Agathe” program, which supports seniors.
