Literary evening in Göhren: surprise guest at the book quartet!

The anticipation for the 16th Altenburg Book Quartet is increasing! On Friday, October 17, 2025, the “Zum kleine Jordan” inn in Göhren will open its doors to literature enthusiasts from near and far. The event, which begins at 7 p.m. and opens at 6:30 p.m., is organized jointly by the Goethe Gesellschaft Altenburg e.V. and the Evangelical Lutheran Church Community of Gödern-Romschütz. Admission is free and voluntary donations are requested to cover costs, as otz.de reports.

This year, participants can look forward to exciting literary discussions. Prominent voices from the literary and cultural scene will be there, including Dr. Kristin Jahn, General Secretary of the Evangelical Church Assembly, Birgit Seiler, Head of the Nature and Environmental Protection Department in the Altenburger Land district, and Dr. Roland Krischke, director of the Altenburg Museums. A surprise guest whose identity is revealed in the evening creates additional excitement. The respective books, which will be presented and discussed in a relaxed atmosphere, include “The Beheaded Rooster” by Eginald Schlattner and the highly acclaimed work “White” by Han Kang, such as abg-net.de highlights.

Plant the evening with literature

The books featured are:

  • „Der geköpfte Hahn“ von Eginald Schlattner
  • „Weiß“ von Han Kang
  • „Superposition“ von Kat Kaufmann
  • „Von Norden rollt ein Donner“ von Markus Thielemann

Anyone interested in books is warmly invited, regardless of previous knowledge of authors or titles. The evening will be accompanied by a culinary surprise, as the inn team will be offering Ukrainian delicacies under the direction of Olga Priadko - a little treat for the palate during the literary journey of discovery.

Culture and community at the center

But it's not just the book quartet that ensures a lively cultural scene. Today the Quellehof cultural asset in Garbisdorf is also open to visitors. From 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., those interested can visit the listed Vierseithof, which is developing into an art and adventure farm. Offers such as a culture barn, a gallery and a ceramics and printing workshop are available and offer insights into the history of the place. Information will also be provided about upcoming projects on family-friendly coexistence, as the state program “Solidarity Coexistence of Generations” (LSZ) promotes innovative initiatives that can be applied for by October 31st.

And while historical awareness unfolds in the Quellenhof, game fans can spend their own evening on Monday, October 13th in the community center of the Evangelical Free Church in Altenburg. From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Gabriele and Thomas Orymek invite you to play together, although you must bring your own food.

It remains to be mentioned that from October 2025, the recipient name “City of Altenburg” must be specified for transfers to the city of Altenburg in order to avoid complications. So be careful when paying to avoid error messages and payment rejections.

The high-quality events and regional initiatives show that cultural life is flourishing in Altenburg and the surrounding area. Whether it's literature, art or playing together - there's something for everyone here! Stop by and immerse yourself in the world of letters and stories!
