New bunker for pyrotechnics: Altenburg plans explosive storage!

At the Altenburg airfield in Nobitz, something is happening: the vacant bunker, which once served to store ammunition by the Soviet Army in the GDR, will soon be brought to a new use. Altenburg-Nobitz GmbH airfield is planning to convert the bunker to store pyrotechnics. The location, near the district of Niederleupten, offers good conditions for this activity - cool and dry.

At a last meeting of the local council, the municipal agreement for the planned use was granted with only one vote. "We had a lot of reason to clarify the security measures from the start," explains the mayor. Several measures are provided for the conversion of the bunker, including the installation of a safety door and the closure of a barred window. In addition, the bunker is fenced with a rod fence to further increase safety.

the users and their plans

DreamfireWorks GmbH from Rositz will use the new storage areas and plans to accommodate a total of 9.5 tons of pyrotechnics on an area of 250 square meters. Pyrotechnics are currently stored at various locations in the district, which is not optimal in the long run. "The new location brings planning security and better opportunities to comply with the storage standards," said a spokesman for the company.

The safe storage of pyrotechnic products is crucial. According to Feuerwerk.net, these must be stored cool and dry, ideally in the original packaging to ensure their durability. In Germany, the inventory provisions for pyrotechnics are subject to strict rules. For example, a maximum of one ton packed in uninhabited warehouse buildings may be stored in accordance with the regulations, while in the commercial area the limit at 60 kg gross is located in a building that is exclusively used.

The applicable regulations

The planning for the conversion of the bunker is in line with the applicable provisions. Experiences from the industry show that with the right storage, most fireworks can be almost unlimited. For the storage in the bunker, an air traffic law approval was requested, which is necessary in order to be able to use the bunker as a pyrotechnic warehouse.

The supervision of the warehouse is also to be ensured. This is particularly important because the bunker is 410 meters from the next residential development, which is far above the legal requirement of 140 meters. The minimum distance to traffic areas and other sensitive areas is also taken into account in this planning: The bunker is 375 meters from the Feuerwehrtechnik Schmitz and 510 meters from the runway.

With all these security precautions and the observance of the relevant regulations-among other things according to baua.de-the facility is very well equipped for the new Task. The residents can rely on professional handling and strict compliance with the safety regulations if it soon says: "Let the lights shine!"
