New Dreiherrenstein ceremoniously inaugurated: symbol of unity!
In a small, ceremonial setting, a new Dreiherrenstein was inaugurated today at the border triangle of Thuringia, Saxony-Anhalt and Saxony. The event took place in Maltitz and numerous guests, including District Administrator Henry Graichen (CDU), the mayor of Groitzsch, Maik Kunze (CDU), as well as representatives from Lucka and Elsteraue, were present. In his speech, chairman Dietmar Schäfer reviewed the history of the Dreiherrenstein, which is not only a geographical point but also a historical symbol.
The original Dreiherrenstein was created in 1913 to mark the border between Saxony, Prussia and Saxony-Altenburg. After a new beginning in 2007, when a new border point was commissioned on the initiative of the MDR, it fell victim to vandalism in 2024. The restoration and subsequent reconstruction were the result of intensive discussions between representatives of the Lucka local history association and the Groitzsch Nature Friends and Local History Association.
Immigrants on border paths
Dreiherrensteine, like the one in Maltitz, historically represent the borders of three dominions and can be found in many places in Germany. For example, there are numerous similar boundary stones in Oberwiesenthal in the Erzgebirge or on Hartenberg in Saxony, which already tell many stories. These monuments are not only interesting excursion destinations, but also witnesses to the historiography of the region. For example, visitors can find out about the history of the newly erected stone on an informative board.
The traversal of history is ensured by the support of various sponsors, including Mibrag, Agricola Agrarliche Betriebsgesellschaft mbH, Infra-Servicegesellschaft mbH, Südzucker AG Werk Zeitz and Bauhof Lucka. This community project proves how important historical heritage is to local identity and that the community is committed to a shared history.
The next events in Altenburger Land
In addition to the inauguration of the Dreiherrenstein, there are also other interesting events coming up: On September 20th, the Altenburg weekly market is canceled due to World Children's Day, and the Kohlen city administration is calling for people to take part in the “World Clean up Day”. If you are looking for a little enjoyment and conviviality, you can come to Cask & Craft in Kraschwitz for a whiskey tasting. On the same day, the Gera Chamber String Orchestra invites you to a special “plum cake concert” in Dorna.
In addition, on September 23rd there will be a reading hour entitled “A Day with the Gruffalo” in the Altenburg City Library for the little bookworms. Also not to be forgotten: A prevention event organized by the Weißen Ring e.V. and the VR-Bank Altenburger Land, which is aimed at preventing trick fraud for older people.
No matter where you go, the Altenburger Land remains a place full of stories, history and community. Whether when exploring the new Dreiherrenstein or at the upcoming events, standstill is never tolerated here.
