Saffron Lights 2025: A culinary festival in the Altenburger Land!

An exciting event is imminent: The FamTrip “Saffron Lights in Altenburger Land 2025” promises culinary highlights and cultural insights into the attractive region. On October 30th and 31st, 2025, everything revolves around the dazzling world of saffron, and the Altenburger Land Tourism Association has put together a varied program for two days that is aimed at tour operators, bus companies, press representatives and bloggers.

The ceremony begins in the Parkhotel am Großen Teich, where Jeannette Kreyßel and André Neumann welcome the guests. Then we go straight to Frank Spieth and Andrea Wagner's saffron cultivation areas. Here the participants can not only pick the flowers, but also lend a hand and pluck saffron threads themselves. An experience that promises many unforgettable moments!

Insights into future projects

The event also offers an exciting insight into the large-scale tourism project “Yosephinum”, which will be presented by Florian Voß. This ambitious project is scheduled to open in 2027 and could give the region a further boost. In addition to the Yosephinum, the Lindenau Museum Altenburg, which is scheduled to reopen in 2029, will also be visited. An absolute must for art and culture lovers!

A hopefully unforgettable culinary highlight awaits the participants on the first evening: a saffron dinner at the “Senfonie” cooking school. High-profile top chefs, including Martin Schlösser, Angelo Antoniolli, Achim Dathe, Steve Müller and Thomas Büchner, create special menus that put saffron in the right light. During the dinner, regional producers present their delicacies and provide exciting insights into local gastronomy.

Eventful day 2

During the second day, a tour of the Altenburg Residential Palace is on the program, followed by a visit to the saffron trails, which take the participants on a taste journey of discovery. The finale is a saffron-infused lunch in the Ratskeller Altenburg – the perfect opportunity to reflect on your experiences.

The FamTrip not only aims to promote the region, but also to underline the importance of Altenburg saffron for sustainable quality tourism. The first inquiries about new travel offers were already received during the event, and this suggests a positive response.

Overall, the FamTrip is considered a success, and the successful exchange between regional players shows that the collaboration is bearing fruit. With a look ahead to the upcoming saffron blossom in 2026, everyone involved can look forward to an upcoming highlight in the region. A great event full of encounters, enjoyment and lots of fun!
