Serious traffic accident: 65-year-old in hospital after collision with truck

A serious traffic accident occurred on Wednesday, July 11, 2025, on Landstrasse 3095 in Altenburger Land. At around 2:30 p.m. there was a collision between a car and a truck at the turnoff to the gravel pit in Neuenmörbitz. The 65-year-old driver, who was driving in a column behind the truck, was seriously injured and had to be taken to hospital immediately. Her condition is serious, but there is currently no further information about the exact injuries.

The 57-year-old truck driver, who wanted to turn left towards the gravel pit, was uninjured. The two vehicles suffered significant damage, with property damage estimated at a five-figure sum. The Altenburger Land police station immediately began investigating the cause of the accident. The L3095 was completely closed for around two hours in order to carry out the accident investigation and clean the road. This closure led to considerable disruption to rush hour traffic.

Traffic situation in Germany

Traffic accidents are an ever-present issue and the numbers speak for themselves. In 2024, there were around 2.5 million road traffic accidents in Germany, which represents a decrease compared to the previous year. Nevertheless, the situation remains tense as the number of accidents causing property damage has increased and the number of accidents causing personal injury remains at a similar level to 1955. A central goal of the EU transport ministers is “Vision Zero”, which envisages no more traffic deaths being registered by 2050. In 2024, 33 traffic deaths per million inhabitants were counted in Germany, which is below the European average.

In this context, the police are urgently looking for witnesses who can provide information about the accident. Information can be submitted directly to the Altenburger Land police station using the known contacts. Any information that could help clarify the case is requested.
