Open Monument Day: Discover priceless treasures!
On September 14, 2025, the world of monuments in Germany will open – under the exciting motto “Valuable: priceless or irreplaceable?”. On this special day, numerous historic sites are open to interested visitors who want to learn more about the hidden values of historic preservation. The focus is on the importance of monuments as places of remembrance and their influence on the population's attitude to life. ABG Net therefore invites all monument owners to take part in this event.
But what makes these monuments so unique? In addition to their material value, which is often measured in purchase prices and material costs, “gray energy” plays a particularly important role. This includes all the energy that went into building the monument. Although these financial valuations sometimes do not reflect the magnificence and cultural significance of a monument, the irreplaceability of these sites remains undisputed. They promote togetherness and enrich our culture of life.
Invitation to participate
Monument owners are requested to register by August 15, 2025. Contact can be made by telephone at 03447/586-429, by fax at 03447/586-425 or by email to bauordnung@altenburgerland.de. Alternatively, a practical online form is available on the website.
This year not only a wide range of monuments will be opened. The program also has numerous creative highlights in store for visitors: from guided tours through otherwise inaccessible places to concerts in historic walls to themed bike tours - the possibilities are almost endless. Under Open Monument Day Those interested can find out more about the various offers and events that will take place on this day.
Interactive tools for the perfect monument day
A special highlight is the new program for smartphones, which makes it easy to plan your personal monument day. Visiting is made even easier with helpful features such as an interactive map listing all participating monuments and a reminder function so you don't miss any events. This not only helps visitors plan their route, but also supports the monuments that need help.
The concerns of monument preservation go far beyond a single day. Historical buildings are not only contemporary witnesses, but also important parts of our cultural heritage. Monument preservation ensures their preservation and protects them from decay and neglect. The influence of environmental influences or the challenges posed by modernization projects also pose major tasks for monument preservation. The Architecture Lexicon emphasizes the importance of involving qualified professionals and paying attention to sustainable practices when preserving and maintaining historic buildings.
Monuments are not just stones and walls - they tell stories, create identity and contribute to economic development by attracting tourists and strengthening a sense of community. Get involved, visit the open monuments on September 14, 2025 and experience the cultural diversity of our history up close!
