Winter service ready: Mockern is preparing for icy challenges!
Winter is knocking on the door and everything in Mockern is being prepared for the cold season. On November 6, 2025, the district road maintenance department officially announced its winter readiness. The planning and necessary preparations for the winter service have been completed, as altenburgerland.de reports.
In the next few days the meteorological winter will officially begin, starting on December 1st. But what will winter 2025/26 be like? Meteorologists disagree - it could be both mild and snowy days. This makes it even more important for those responsible to be well prepared for all eventualities.
The winter service in Mockern
The district road maintenance department's winter service preparations include making seven trucks equipped with snow plows and automatic gritters suitable for winter use. “We are well positioned,” explains road guard Mirko Etzold. Mechanic Renè Grigulewitsch and his team also ensured that everything ran smoothly.
An important aspect is the snow fences that were put up to protect road traffic from snowdrifts. Responsible for looking after a total of 234 kilometers of district roads in Altenburger Land, winter service will start at 4 a.m. if necessary. Tours typically last between 2 and 3 hours, but can be significantly longer in extreme weather conditions. On weekdays the service extends until 10 p.m., weekends and public holidays are also covered.
In order to make winter service effective, four silos are currently filled with a total of 920 tons of road salt. The district road maintenance department also receives support in clearing municipal roads, which makes it easier to deal with winter conditions quickly and effectively.
A look at the weather events
When you look at the weather forecasts, they usually say that a mild climate has both advantages and disadvantages for the season. On the one hand, a mild winter can promise less snowfall, but still increase the risk of black ice. The uncertainties represent a real challenge for the winter season. The preparations by the district road maintenance department are therefore even more important.
Just like the winter weather in Mockern, winter service is also an issue that concerns everyone. Everyone can look forward to the fact that the roads remain safe to drive on, even in snow and ice. After all, well-prepared winter service ensures that we remain mobile even in the cold season.
So let's stay tuned to see what the winter of 2025/26 will be like and what challenges it may bring us. One thing is clear: there is a lot to do for those responsible in Mockern, and the preparations are intended to ensure that we get through the winter safely!
