Eichsfeld in training stress: 891 places are waiting for applicants!
There will be many exciting events and important developments in Cologne in the next few days that could be of interest to citizens. A wool workshop will be offered at the Gut Herbigshagen nature adventure center on Monday, July 7th, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Here, children aged 5 and over can felt with sheep's wool under instructions. This Wednesday, July 9th, the “Summer in the Stable” event will take place, where stories will be told and farm animals will be cared for. A small fee of 5 euros is charged for both events, and for “Summer in the Stable” the legal guardians must stay on site.
Another highlight will be the family day in the wildcat village of Hütscheroda, which will take place on Sunday, July 6th, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Here it's all about wild bees and butterflies. Guided family hikes are on the program at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. This event is free, but registration is recommended.
Current training market situation
But it's not just events that are on the agenda; The training market situation in the region is also a hot topic. In northern Thuringia, numerous companies suffer from a lack of trainees: of the 1,663 advertised training positions, 891, or almost half, are unfilled. There are many vacancies, particularly in retail and in technical professions such as mechatronics engineers and cutting machine operators. There are currently 100 company training positions for which only 65 applicants could be found, as [thueringer- Allgemeine.de](https://www.thueringer- Allgemeine.de/lokales/eichsfeld/article409412969/nachrichten-aus-dem-eichsfeld-und-anbindenden-regionen.html) reports.
Markus Behrens, Chairman of the BA Regional Directorate for Saxony-Anhalt-Thuringia, emphasizes that different forms of training and practice-oriented career orientation are essential for students. A ratio of two remaining workers to one young person is alarming. It is therefore urgently necessary that training offers be better coordinated regionally and that students establish contacts with employers at an early stage in order to increase their motivation. A look at the figures from the last reporting year shows that around 1,400 training positions were still unfilled by the end of September 2024. There were around 800 young people of foreign origin among the applicants, which underlines the diversity of the applicants; most came from Syria and Eastern Europe.
Training offers and information
The Eichsfeld district offers numerous apprenticeships, which are a great opportunity for school graduates. The entry requirements vary between the 2- and 3-year courses, with intermediate school leaving certificate being a prerequisite for the longer programs. Particularly important: Severely disabled people will be given priority if they are equally suitable. The training locations in the district are diverse, with theoretical training in Gotha and practical training in Heilbad Heiligenstadt and Leinefelde-Worbis. Those interested can find more information about the training positions at kreis-eic.de.
The Erfurt Chamber of Commerce and Industry has also planned training courses for trainer aptitude tests in August, starting on August 11th and 12th in Nordhausen and Mühlhausen. Registration is required for this, so it's best to get started right away! Anyone who would like to find out more about these topics has the opportunity to take part in a public tour of the German Bratwurst Museum on Friday, July 4th, which begins at 11 a.m. - a pleasure from a cultural and culinary perspective.
In the midst of these developments, it is important to also pay attention to your health: Barmer health insurance has reactivated its heat hotline, which offers important tips on health during the heat wave and is available daily from 6 a.m. to midnight.
