First balcony theater in Eichsfeld: A piece full of GDR memories!
Tonight a very special event is being celebrated in Leinefelde: The first balcony theater in Eichsfeld is celebrating its premiere! From 7 p.m., the balcony side of Mozartstrasse becomes the stage for an amusing play. Tenants and employees of the LWG housing association bring stories to the balconies that are full of memories of the GDR era. Anyone who would like to take part is welcome to bring a blanket or a stool and enjoy the piece in the open air. Admission is of course free, so everyone shouldn't miss the spectacle Eichsfeld News reported.
A look outside the box at Brandenburg an der Havel shows that the balcony theater concept has already borne fruit there too. At the end of August 2023, the rehearsals took place in the “Quartier der Mitte”, where the performances took place in a classic prefabricated block. While the stage consisted of balconies of empty apartments, spectators sat on a lawn, which created a family and happy atmosphere. The two theater partners, Alexandra Wilke and Michelle Schmidt, presented impressive dramatic scenes that carried the audience away with touching songs. The focus was on living in prefabricated buildings, a topic that is no less relevant in Eichsfeld at home, as is the reporting by BBU shows.
A look at Eisenhüttenstadt
There are also exciting developments in the balcony theater sector in Eisenhüttenstadt. The concept has also proven successful there, with stories from the prefabricated housing estate “An der Holzwolle” being told on several balconies. Directed by Alexandra Wilke - who was already active in Brandenburg - a varied program will be offered over two evenings that takes a look at the shared culture and the stories of the residents. The event lasts 75 minutes and also falls into the “free entry” category, which promotes accessibility for all. The enthusiasm of the spectators was noticeable there, reported rbb24.
Across city borders, it shows that the balcony theater preserves a common cultural heritage and at the same time promotes the quality of life in the prefabricated housing areas. The residents are not only offered a performance, but also a platform to express themselves and tell their own story. The Balcony Theater becomes a place of exchange and remembrance that resonates long after the last performance.
