District tent camp: Adventure and team spirit for 30 children in Eichsfeld!
The Eichsfeld district association of the German Red Cross (DRK) organized a great district tent camp at the Heiligenstadt fire station at the weekend. Over 30 children, young people and carers gathered to strengthen team spirit in a three-day adventure and gain important insights into the diverse work of the DRK. The participants arrived on Friday, with four children having to sleep in tents due to the cool temperatures, while the rest slept comfortably in wooden huts or bungalows. The large pole tent that marked the camp's path was actively set up by all participants and ensured a real community experience.
There was a colorful program for the children. Due to the high level of forest fire, a real campfire was of course not possible, but games around the “campfire” and an exciting night hike still created an exciting atmosphere. Intensive workshops followed on Saturday, where the young participants learned everything about first aid in nature. This included creative exercises such as improvising a stretcher and applying make-up. A quiz to award points for a competition also presented the groups with exciting challenges.
Workshops and first aid
The participants also conducted research into the DRK's various preparedness positions. At one station they had to guess spices and determine the cocoa content of chocolate, which was a lot of fun for everyone. There was also a game with radios that provided loud entertainment. In the evening, the 100th anniversary of the Youth Red Cross was celebrated together, which was a very special highlight of the camp.
On Sunday there were again three workshops on the program, including one that was specifically aimed at cardiopulmonary resuscitation and was entitled “Heart Saver Bronze”. The campers also experienced the important resuscitation formula: check, call, push - a technique that can be life-saving in an emergency. The importance of quick action, as also expressed by the DRK federal doctor Univ.-Prof. Bernd Böttiger emphasizes that it could be conveyed in a practical way, because in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest, minutes have to decide between life and death drkharb1.drk-hosting.de can be read.
Successful completion
As a crowning conclusion, the winning group from the small competition was announced: “Chantalle & Co. KG” proudly took home the victory. The feedback was consistently positive, and the participants and supervisors thanked them for the great organization and the successful workshops. Another JRK district tent camp is already being planned for 2025, which will significantly increase anticipation for the next round of exciting experiences.
With a view to the upcoming challenges and the importance of first aid knowledge, the DRK will continue to provide ongoing educational work in the future. On radio-aktiv.de The importance of imparting skills, which should be promoted in schools and by the Youth Red Cross, is pointed out. It will be exciting to see what the future brings!
