On Sunday night there was an arson attack on several Bundeswehr trucks in Erfurt, which caused a stir. How World Reportedly, the vehicles were set on fire near the MAN Truck & Bus Service GmbH company. A Russian-language video posted on Telegram shows the trucks first undamaged and then ablaze. It claims the vehicles were intended for the Ukrainian armed forces and were set on fire by “our people”.
In the excitement, the circumstances of the attack are still unclear. Although Russian propaganda channels loudly ZDF are proud of the act, the Federal Ministry of Defense made it clear that these trucks were not for Ukraine, but belonged to Bundeswehr units in Thuringia. Nevertheless, the video speaks a different language, and the Thuringia State Criminal Police Office is investigating both the authenticity of the material and the possible connections to the perpetrators.
The background to the attack
The arson attack in Erfurt is not the first incident of this kind. A similar incident occurred at the same location in June of the previous year. In addition, two weeks ago, six other Bundeswehr vehicles burned in Soltau, Lower Saxony, which were also parked on a workshop site. In Soltau, a letter of responsibility was published on the left-wing extremist platform “Indymedia”, which blamed the group “Agenda2029” for the attack.
These types of attacks raise questions and cause concern. Are we confronted with an organized attack against the Bundeswehr? The State Criminal Police Office is investigating in all directions. A spokeswoman for the public prosecutor's office in Erfurt is investigating possible connections to the previous arson attacks.
