Colorful flowers for everyone: Erfurters surprise with a loving bouquet!

On the last Sunday in June, the world of flowers celebrated a very special day: Lonely Bouquet Day. On June 29, 2025, an Erfurt resident placed a colorful bouquet of flowers on a tree in the Brühl Garden. There was a note attached to this bouquet that said, “Take me with you!” and a warm message from the FlowerEffects team. This invitation to take the bouquet with you or pass it on with your own message reflected the spirit of the initiative, which aims to spread joy and humanity. According to Thüringen24, Lonely Bouquet Day has been encouraging people to leave flowers in public spaces since 2013 to give others a little joy.

The idea for this comes from the Belgian Emily Avenson, who launched the campaign. Since then, the day has developed into an international event in which large numbers of people also take part in many German cities. The bouquets, which are placed anonymously in public spaces, always come with a note explaining that they are intended to be taken away. Participants are invited to share their experiences on social media using the hashtag #LonelyBouquetDay. According to the press portal, this warm gesture met with a great response and ensured positive reactions in the community.

A personal commitment

The Erfurt florist Manuela has been there for nine years and has distributed up to 30 bouquets in the past. This year she has reduced the number slightly due to her new role as a mother. Manuela likes to remember the surprised faces of the finders when they discover one of her bouquets. “It’s always nice to see how a small bouquet puts a smile on someone’s face,” she said. The person who found the last bouquet was also very happy to dedicate himself to his family by giving the bouquet away and sharing his experiences on Facebook.

Fleurop, a company that arranges flower orders for local florists, is offering a DIY kit this year for anyone who wants to get active themselves. This set contains fresh cut flowers and everything you need to create your own Lonely Bouquet. Every year, over 25 million flower arrangements are made and personally presented by professional florists under the company's direction - clear evidence of the loving connection between people and nature.

Materials for Lonely Bouquet Day

For anyone who would like to get involved even more intensively, the initiative has put together some materials that are needed:

  • Kleine Blumensträußchen (erhältlich im Blumengeschäft)
  • Gläschen, z. B. Marmeladengläser
  • Geschenkband oder Schleifenband
  • Kleine Kärtchen oder Anhänger
  • Frisches Leitungswasser

Flower lovers are invited to leave bouquets in public places such as pedestrian zones or market squares. Clear instructions for participation can be found throughout the community.

With every flower given, Lonely Bouquet Day helps ignite a wave of kindness and joy. This small gesture has the potential to make the world a little more beautiful. Clear words from Emily Avenson, who laid the foundation for this inspiring campaign and once said: “It’s not about advertising or profit, but about sharing love.”

The colorful bouquets not only represent flowers, but also the connections that we can create between people - every week. Be there and let us bring you a bouquet of joy too!
