Erfurt disappointed despite the fighting spirit: 0-0 against Hertha U23 in weakness in injuries!
An exciting evening in the middle of September: On September 26, 2025, the U23 from Hertha BSC competed against Rot-Weiß Erfurt in the Regionalliga Northeast. A heated duel developed in front of 625 spectators that ended with a goalless draw despite numerous chances of both teams. The Erfurt team faced special challenges, since they had nine injured players in the squad.
Hertha BSC started the game strongly and immediately put Erfurt under pressure. Eliyas Strasner had the first notable chance in the 20th minute, but it was brilliantly blocked by Ben-Luca Moritz. Hertha's attack was dangerous again in the 28th minute, but Sofiane Ikene was able to fend off Karim Bellomo's shot. While Erfurt was enormously challenged by Berlin's strong offensive actions, coach Rejhan Hasanović's team only managed a few dangerous attacks in the first half.
Final phase with dramatic moments
The second half brought more life into the game. While Erfurt initially had difficulties, with Ugondu's first chance narrowly missing the goal in the 41st minute, things soon became more turbulent. Stanislav Fehl met Hertha's keeper Marius Gersbeck in the 68th minute, who kept his team's back with several brilliant deeds. Ömer Uzun had the chance to decide the game for Erfurt in the 88th and 89th minutes, but was denied by Gersbeck, who also parried the header.
The drama took its course when Ugondu saw the red card because of an assault. Despite the outnumbered and the late phase, Erfurt continued to win, with Sejdo Durakov missing a last chance in the 90th+4 minute. Hertha also did not give up and put on the final attack in the 95th minute, but Lorenz Otto, the Erfurt keeper, was on the spot again and held the point.
Coaches are happy, but also realistic
After the game, coach Hasanović was positive about the performance of his players and especially about the performance of Marius Gersbeck, who was a sure support in goal. “We may not have been able to get the three points, but we showed that we can hold our own against strong winds,” said Hasanović. After the tenth game of the season, Hertha has nine points and is now looking forward to the next derby against the second representative of 1. FC Magdeburg, which will take place on October 10th at 7:00 p.m.
Hertha BSC and Red-Weiß Erfurt will certainly encourage the tie to think, while the regional league northeast remains exciting. It remains to be seen how other surprises and twists occur. If you look at the statistics, the league currently offers a lot of "remarkable" football food. There are also regular updates to the teams and their shape on Kicker.
The task for Erfurt remains to revive their offensive, while Hertha BSC should work on their game in order to make the results positive in the future.
