Erfurt becomes a sports city: new platform and campaign take off!

On July 24, 2025, a new era of sport will usher in Erfurt: The city has the website today www.sport-in-erfurt.de brought into being. This platform aims to provide people with comprehensive information about sports in Erfurt. From an overview of popular sports clubs to top team sports to large individual events - everything that makes an athlete's heart beat faster can be found here.

When presenting the website, Mayor Andreas Horn emphasized the key role that sport plays in community life in Erfurt. The “Sport in Erfurt” campaign aims to sustainably strengthen the city’s image as a sports metropolis. From August 2025, large image posters with players from four Erfurt clubs will also be presented.

Variety of offers and events

A highlight of the new website is the sports calendar, which provides comprehensive information about public events. From September 2025, the monthly event calendar “Your Sports Month in Erfurt” will also be distributed, which will be visible at tram stops, advertising pillars and in sports facilities. This calendar includes the games of the major Erfurt team sports clubs as well as top sporting events, and the social media channels “Experience Erfurt” and “erfurt_de” are also actively used to promote the campaign.

The city receives support from partners such as KoWo and SWE Stadtwerke Erfurt, who, together with other partners, are committed to portraying the city positively and strengthening the sense of community. The website will use a neutral logo that fits harmoniously into the Erfurt brand and includes all sports as well as smaller clubs.

Membership development in local sports clubs

A look at the membership numbers of Erfurt's largest sports clubs shows how high the interest in sport is in the city. FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt e.V. tops the list with 2,357 members, closely followed by the Erfurt Alpin section of DAV e.V. with 2,166 members. The men's gymnastics club 1860 Erfurt e.V. and the university sports club Erfurt e.V. are also very popular.

The Stadtsportbund Erfurt e.V. not only promotes popular sports, but also sports for the disabled, health and competitive sports. The integration of youth sports in the city sports association shows how important child and youth work is in Erfurt. Under the leadership of Birgit Pelke, the volunteer board is actively involved in creating an appreciative and supportive structure in the city's sports operations.
