Autumn has arrived and with it there are enjoyable excursion destinations for the whole family in Thuringia. On November 5, 2025, the region's museums were a popular destination because there are many exciting offers for children and adults. A visit to the various cities in Thuringia is particularly worthwhile for families who want to spend an educational and entertaining day. The selection is colorful and ranges from the Natural History Museum in Erfurt to the German Toy Museum in Sonneberg, where small and large visitors feel equally at home.

You can do that in Erfurt Natural History Museum Visit, which surprises with a replica of Noah's Ark. There are life-size animal figures and numerous other exhibitions that address the current issue of species extinction. The museum is open daily from Tuesday to Sunday and the entrance fee is very family-friendly at 6 euros, reduced price 4 euros and 13 euros for families.

Play and discover in Jena and Sonneberg

Visitors can expect this in Jena Imaginata, a place where mathematics, physics, technology and biology can be explored in an interactive way on 1,700 square meters of indoor space and 3,000 square meters of outdoor space. Also on offer is the German Toy Museum in Sonneberg, which boasts a collection of an impressive 5,000 exhibits, including a model for the “Thuringian Fair”. Here the whole family can immerse themselves in the world of toys and even discover interactive stations.

The museum is open to visitors from Tuesday to Sunday and the entry prices are very reasonable: adults pay 6 euros, reduced prices 5 euros, younger guests can browse for 4 euros and there is a ticket for families for 18 euros.

A cultural experience in Weimar and Meiningen

Weimar features the Klassik Stiftung museums, which offer exciting workshops in the Bauhaus Museum and creative exhibitions such as “Faust” in the Schiller House. A highlight for young guests is the free entry for children and young people under 16 years of age. The museum is barrier-free and is open from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the summer months.

This is not to be forgotten Museum in Elisabethenburg Castle in Meiningen, where art and courtly splendor provide a wonderful setting for children's installations such as the “Play World Castle” with costumes. This is a great opportunity for children to immerse themselves in the world of fairy tales and learn.
