Erfurt is taking measures against domestic violence: protection, education and support through a strong network from September 24th, 2025.

Together against domestic violence: Erfurt's new support network
In Erfurt, the issue of domestic violence is being addressed with vigor. The city has created a network made up of various actors: administration, police, judiciary, women's protection institutions and social providers. The aim is to offer those affected quick help and protection and to establish a clearly structured help system. Susette Schubert, the city’s equal opportunities officer, puts it succinctly: “Protecting those affected is the top priority.”
Domestic violence is seen as a serious social problem that affects everyone. The citizens of Erfurt are called upon to take responsibility and take active action against violence. The network has set itself clear goals: from education and prevention to avoid violence to more transparency in the procedure and better networking of the available offers. Information events, specialist forums and multiplier training are planned, among other things, to help make the topic visible.
Joint activities and events
A special highlight in the event calendar is the “Sisters of Comedy” fundraising event, which will take place on November 10th. The proceeds are intended to benefit women's protection organizations. In addition, actions are planned for the International Day against Violence against Women on November 25th in front of the town hall, which are intended to draw further attention to the important issue.
The multifaceted problem of domestic violence affects all levels of society. Women have the right to decide about their own lives and do not have to be ashamed under any circumstances. Violence can take many forms: from humiliation and insults to physical assault and sexual assault. These types of violence often have serious consequences for the women affected and their children.
Offers of help for those affected
In Erfurt there are various support offers that can help those affected by domestic violence. In addition to a women's shelter that offers anonymous protection and enables women to move freely, there are also advice centers that provide important information about help and protection options. It is possible to move out of the women's shelter at any time, and a member of staff is available to provide support during your stay.
