Reading festival for young and old: share stories and enjoy!
Erfurt, Deutschland - In Cologne, love for reading is very important! On June 18, 2025, a special event will take place in a relaxed atmosphere, which is aimed at all reading enthusiasts. Here not only joy in reading is celebrated, but also promoted the exchange about stories and favorite books. If you want to share your passion for literature, you can bring your favorite book or just listen and be inspired. All literary genres are welcome - be it an exciting novel, moving poetry, revealing non -fiction books or rousing short stories. According to erfurt.de , the librarians of the city will also provide inspiring reading recommendations.
This event is part of a larger trend that children, especially from “reading speakers”, wants to make access to the world of books easier. As part of the funding program "Culture makes strong. Alliances for education" are to be created by a total of 400 new reading clubs in Germany by the end of 2027. These clubs, which can be located in schools, children's and youth centers and libraries, pursue the goal of promoting the fun of reading, without the pressure of performance evaluation. The Reading Foundation supports this project with a comprehensive media offer that has been comprising over 500,000 media since 2013. Further information can be found on Reading .
a place of exchange
The reading clubs are an open platform that enables the exchange about books and allows new works to be discovered. Participation takes place completely free of charge and registration is not required. As a rule, the clubs are offered twice a week for one to one and a half hours. This flexible structure allows children and young people to participate without pressure and a voluntary basis. The initiative goes beyond reading, because even handicrafts, storytelling and plays are on the program, which promotes creativity and cooperation among the participants.
The reading clubs are particularly aimed at children aged six to twelve. Here the focus is on reading motivation, not to increase reading skills. The unique concept aims to make children tasty in a relaxed setting and give them the opportunity to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of books. By providing books, magazines, handicrafts and even tablets, the children offer the children an extensive and varied learning environment that is supported by committed supervisors.
cooperation partner and outlook
Interestingly, the Reading Foundation is not the only partner in this project; At least one other local facility works hand in hand with the reading clubs. There are currently 483 active reading club locations in Germany, and the demand is unbroken. In 2022, around 21,000 children were able to benefit from these offers. The next round of the funding programs brings with it the opportunity to found 250 new reading clubs and maybe even establish 150 more. You can find more about this on Alliance for Education .The event today is characterized by a broad initiative that wants to promote the fun of reading and at the same time creates a network of like -minded people. It is the perfect opportunity to be inspired and meet other literature lovers - a real highlight in Cologne cultural life!
