March of Appreciation: Civil society holds up emergency services!
On Saturday, October 25, 2025, theMarch of Appreciationtook place, organized by Veterans Culture e.V. and supported by the delegation of the RK Schneeberger Jäger. The aim of this event was to strengthen the connection between civil society and emergency services and to promote respect and recognition for the police, fire brigade, emergency services and soldiers. The march was also intended to send a signal against the increasing disrespect and violence towards emergency services in recent years, which continues to be a major issue in our society due to social tensions and a dwindling respect for authority. Reservistenverband reports that the weather during the event was optimal and numerous passers-by decorated the path.
The march started onHelios Clinic Erfurtand led over almost six kilometers to theCathedral Squarein Erfurt. Numerous conversations were held along this route and new contacts were made. Especially thoseBlue light mileon Cathedral Square, where vehicles and equipment from the participating organizations were presented, attracted the interest of many citizens. The end of the event was used to thank the participants and the organizational team for their commitment and to express special thanks to the sponsors for the catering.
A strong sign
The need for such events is underscored by the increasing rates of violence against police officers. According to Bundeswehr und Mehr, over 46,218 cases were registered in 2023. It is crucial that we become aware of this problem and counteract it not only on an individual level, but also through social initiatives like this march. Measures such as public awareness and preventive training programs are essential to strengthen respect for those who protect us.
A holistic approach is required - this also means that existing safety protocols and training for emergency services must be continuously improved. Both risk assessments before operations and de-escalation strategies come into play here to ensure the safety of officers. The importance of well-equipped police clothing and technological training cannot be underestimated.
An outlook
The success of this year's March of Appreciation gives hope for a repeat event next year. The RK Schneeberger Jäger has already announced that it will take part again next year. This shows: It is not just a one-off act, but a continuous process that brings respect and recognition for the work of emergency services to the fore and helps society to raise awareness of their achievements.
In the meantime, football is not left out, as sport also shows how important recognition of achievements is. Jesse Marsch, a destacado coach in football who works tirelessly in various positions, stands not only for his successes in the MLS and European leagues, but also for the responsibility he has towards young talent as a coach and mentor. Wikipedia notes that Marsch continues to provide new impetus in the coaching area and advances the dialogue about respect in sport.
