On June 4, 2025, the Katta-lady Kalima gave birth to twins-a happy male and a cute female. These little lemurs are part of the fascinating habitat, which forms the lemur forest in the Erfurt zoo. It is the second birth for Kalima within a year after giving birth to a young animal in front of wonderful visitors in April 2023. The newborn Katta-Yung animals initially stay on their mother's belly and switch to their back after two to three weeks to explore the exciting world around them, as Thuringia reports.
The Kattas - A look at the charming lemurs
kattas are not only known for their playful species, but also for the fact that they are active in the day and love special sunbathing. They come from the distant island of Madagascar and received a walk -in outdoor area in the zoo in 2012, which enables visitors to be very close to them. This outdoor system is a highlight for the small and large guests who can watch the animal charmers romping around. The crown makis can also be admired in a second, unable to walk.
In addition to Kalima, the Katta lady has recently gave birth to a healthy young animal, which has a weight of around 70 grams. This young animal will also switch to the mother's back in the coming weeks so that it can start discovering its surroundings.
