In Erfurt, a serious case causes a stir: A 57-year-old teacher has been in custody since last Friday after the police carried out extensive searches. The teacher who works at a local school is accused of spreading youth pornographic content. Already on June 21, the Erfurt district court issued the arrest warrant against the teacher, who has now been transferred to a judiciary. However, the case of the man is not alone: ​​in connection with the investigation against him, a 63-year-old teacher of the same school has also come into focus. This was arrested on June 16 and is also in custody. He is accused of having misused a student between 2016 and 2020. In his case, too, the investigation had been initiated by an advertisement, such as Tag24 reported.

Investigations under high pressure

The police work with high pressure on the clarification of these frightening cases. The focus is on the allegations of sexual abuse of children and adolescents. According to the latest federal position, which was presented by the Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser and the BKA, there is a clear increase in sexual offenses against minors. In 2023, over 16,000 cases were registered, which represents an alarming increase of 5.5 % compared to the previous year. The digital world in particular plays a major role in such offenses, not only as a crime scene, but also as a platform for the spread of abuse representations, as in BKA

According to the current statistics, more than 55 % of the victims have a preliminary relationship with the suspects, a shocking fact that focuses on grooming - the initiation of sexual contacts. The cyber grooming, which can be punished with prison terms of up to five years under certain circumstances, is on the rise. In recent years, measures have been increasingly taken to counteract these terrifying trends and to support the investigators in order to better clarify the dark field of sexual abuse.

The events at the Erfurt school are another worrying proof that society must continue to be vigilant. In particular, the role of the school, which should act as a protective space for children and adolescents, is now being tested. The ongoing investigations will surely raise a few questions and it is already clear: the clarification and preventing such acts must be a top priority.
