Protests against planned wind farm in Thuringia: approvals stalled, concerns from hotels and campsites.

Approval for a wind farm in the Thuringian Forest has not been granted – companies in distress!
The planned wind farm on the northern slope of the Thuringian Forest is currently on hold. As the MDR reported, the Gotha district administration confirmed at the request of the AfD parliamentary group in the district council that no application for approval for the wind turbines had yet been submitted. This is causing concern among local businesses. The Paulfeld campsite near Altenbergen is already expecting a significant decline in the number of overnight stays, and the Hotel Rodebachmühle in Georgenthal is also expressing similar concerns. Many operators fear for their existence due to the planned wind farm in the region.
The permits for wind farms do not fall under the jurisdiction of the district, but are issued by the federal government. This could influence the development of further wind power projects in Thuringia, as the federal government is requesting more land for wind energy. The area around Tambach-Dietharz is designated as a wind priority area and covers around 200 hectares.
Changes in the Thuringian Forest Act
Critics, including NABU and the Thuringian Farmers' Association, express concerns about the new regulations. There is a lack of suitable areas for compensatory afforestation away from agricultural land, which could lead to competition for afforestation areas. In addition, it is unclear how often exceptions to these regulations are actually granted, as the law is partly formulated as a “should rule”. Such unclear provisions could even lead to a new review by the Federal Constitutional Court.
The developments in the field of wind energy, especially with regard to the planned wind farm and the amendments to the Forest Act, show that the region faces both opportunities and challenges. It remains exciting to see how the situation develops for local companies and the use of renewable energies.
