Alzarro Dönerworld in financial distress: bankruptcy and a new start for Gera?

The news of the preliminary insolvency of Alzarro Dönerworld GmbH from Korbußen near Gera hit like a thunderbolt. The innovative company, which brought the world's first baked kebab onto the market in 2024, is fighting for survival. However, managing director Mustafa Demirkürek plans to continue operations with the help of an insolvency administrator and fresh capital. The modern production facilities, which are equipped with a mid-eight-figure budget, can produce up to 100,000 kebabs a day at full capacity. The factory is currently producing 15,000 finished kebabs per day and impresses with its quality and hygiene. Employees wear hoods and face masks while machines form, fill, seal and bake the dumplings fully automatically. After baking, de-steaming, cooling, testing, weight control and packaging follow before the products are sold.

The problems that led to bankruptcy are diverse. Delays in the delivery of specialized machines and a defective investor have put the company in trouble. In addition, the sales figures fell short of expectations, which poses challenges not only for the manufacturer, but also for large retail chains such as Rewe and Edeka, which sell the product. The price for the popular product “Kebab Bake”, a filled dough shell with chicken, salad and garlic sauce, is 6.99 euros.

Financial difficulties and market developments

Alzarro Dönerworld GmbH is not alone with its financial problems. In 2024, a total of 21,812 companies filed for bankruptcy in Germany, which represents an increase of 22.4% compared to 2023. These worrying figures reflect growing economic uncertainty. Many of the companies affected have struggled with crises in recent years and were ultimately forced to throw in the towel. ifm-bonn.org points out that among the bankrupts there are also numerous self-employed people who had to file an application due to past financial difficulties.

This makes it all the more important for Alzarro Dönerworld to find new investors and stabilize operations. Discussions on this are already underway. Managing director Demirkürek is optimistic and emphasizes that the product should remain available.

Hygiene and product quality in focus

Despite the bankruptcy, production in the ultra-modern factory is in full swing. The entire production hall is lined with stainless steel and hygiene is a high priority. Up to 42 tonnes of lettuce are processed daily and the range on offer includes three flavours. Reviews on social media refer to both the price and the taste of the baked kebab, but Demirkürek is convinced of the quality of his products. His ambitions are great. In the long term, he would like to sell 100,000 kebabs a day and achieve a firm establishment in the market.

The case of Alzarro Dönerworld shows how quickly things can happen in the food industry. At a time when many companies are struggling with similar difficulties, it is to be hoped that operations can take a turn for the better.
