Full closure in Ronneburg: Paitzdorfer Straße remains closed!

There are some exciting events on the program in Gera and the surrounding area in the coming days, covering both cultural and social aspects. August 12, 2025 will be a special highlight for many citizens, as there will be various activities in which you can take part.

A central event will take place at 6 p.m. in the St. Petri Church in Dorna. The regional bishop of the Evangelical Church of Central Germany, Friedrich Kramer, will lead an evening prayer. This devotion includes songs, prayers and opportunities for exchange - a successful opportunity for the congregation to pause and share spiritual moments together.

Practical advice and traditional things

For those who would like to learn more about coming to terms with history, the Amthor Passage Memorial in Gera on the same day from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. there is a citizens' advice center. Organized by the Stasi records archive in Gera and the Thuringian state representative for coming to terms with the SED dictatorship, topics such as access to files and rehabilitation are discussed here. A valid personal document is required for participation.

Next Sunday, August 17th, all friends of social gatherings can look forward to a traditional breakfast in the Theaterfabrik Gera. From 11 a.m. there is not only a buffet with a selection of rolls and spreads, but also numerous creative offers for children. A visit that has something for young and old!

Protests and workshops

However, the coming days will not only be marked for cultural events, but also for social activities. On Wednesday, August 13th, Bundestag member Stephan Brandner (AfD) is organizing a protest against the expansion of wind energy in the Ronneburg locomotive shed at 6 p.m. Such protests are not unknown in the history of the GDR, where the opposition and citizen movements successfully pushed for change through non-violent action in times of unrest. As Stasi Mediothek reports, such movements have often challenged the heavily armed security apparatus in the past.

To mark the growing importance of media education, a parent-child workshop will take place on Saturday, August 16th in the forecourt of the Gera Culture and Congress Center. Families who would like to deal with topics such as media use and digital self-determination can take part here. The offer is free, but registration is requested.

Not to be forgotten is the children's clothing flea market in the Bieblach-Ost family center on Friday, August 15th. From 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., little bargain hunters can browse in a relaxed atmosphere and fortify themselves with coffee and cake. The visit is worth it as a variety of clothing items are waiting for their new owners!

At a time characterized by intense social conflict and the pursuit of more democratic rights, the activities in Gera show how important exchange and engagement among citizens are. Historical lessons from the past, as described by bpb, illuminate the path to a more livable tomorrow. With the upcoming events, Gera is well on the way to bringing citizens closer together and actively discussing current topics.
