Gotha in fashion fever: Exclusive fashion show brings autumn trends!

A lot is happening in Gotha and the fashion trade is making an impressive comeback. On Friday, September 19, 2025, an exclusive fashion show will take place at the Moses fashion house that will ring in autumn in all its glory. Managing director Katrin Neumann highlights the revitalization of Gotha's city center and shows that in times of online trading and e-commerce it is important not to lose sight of personal contact and advice. “The combination of events and individual shopping experiences is the key to strengthening local retail,” says Neumann, according to oscar-am-freitag.de.

The fashion show, which will be staged twice – at 3:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. – in the impressive setting of the fashion house, is presented by Effenberg Models. The large staircase under the glass roof becomes a catwalk and after the show, guests have the opportunity to try on the models shown directly. And to make the visit not only fashionable but also enjoyable, guests are welcomed with sparkling wine and further surprises await them. Entry is free and no tickets are required, which makes the event particularly attractive.

Unique shopping experience in Gotha city center

But it's not just the Moses fashion house that's contributing to the revival. Gotha's historic old town is a true El Dorado for shopping enthusiasts. The impressive rows of houses as well as the large selection of individual shops, cozy street cafes and restaurants that offer both Thuringian and international cuisine create a very special flair. A particularly popular event are the Gotha weekly markets, which take place every Thursday and Friday and perfectly complement the catering and service providers, as gotha.de reports.

But retail doesn't have it easy. The current challenges caused by the Corona crisis and ongoing online trading are affecting many businesses. According to statista.com, 47 Galeria-Karstadt-Kaufhof branches had to close in June 2023 alone, and further closures are also planned for 2024. The so-called “doughnut effect” shows that more and more consumers are moving from city centers to the suburbs, while demand for brick-and-mortar shopping is decreasing, especially among younger consumers.

The future of the city center

In the midst of these changes, Gotha's city management is showing initiative and support. The actors are working on a sustainable concept for the city center that focuses on vacancy management, the establishment of new businesses and exciting events. A mix of shopping, living, work, dining and leisure is exactly what many consumers want. According to surveys, 45% of mountain respondents are interested in a meeting place in the city center, while 35% are against a car-free city center.

The challenges are great, but Gotha shows that creative solutions can be found even in difficult times. Events like the fashion show at the Moses fashion house are an important step in strengthening retail and bringing citizens back to the city.
