New dermatologist practice in Elxleben: Finally closed supply gap!

In Thuringia there is a breath of fresh air in the healthcare system: The outpatient medical care foundation has opened a new dermatologist practice in Elxleben. An important step, because the region specific dermatological supply gap in the Sömmerda district urgently had to be closed. The first chairman of the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KVT), Annette Rommel, emphasizes that 1.5 dermatologists recently remained unfulfilled in the region. This not only becomes a contact point for dermatological, it also brings urgently needed specialists to the region.

The new facility is managed by two doctors: Uta Zell, who has been treating its patients since mid -June, and Julia Blumenstunge, who will be added in October. This ensures that the supply gap will be closed as soon as possible. The foundation in Thuringia currently operates a total of nine practices and thus offers important support for rural regions, where there is often a lack of successors for retirement doctors.

modern solutions for medical protection

The foundation, founded in 2009 by the KVT and the Free State of Thuringia, has set itself the goal of promoting the settlement of doctors. In recent years she has received support in the opening of 19 practices. The new practices also act as courses for prospective doctors who can learn practical management here. This is done in the context of a model that reduces the disadvantages of starting a business by working in an employee relationship and the foundation bears the operating costs.

Last year, two specialist practices in Gotha, one of a dermatologist and one of a rheumatologist, were opened. These initiatives illustrate how seriously the foundation takes the problem of the lack of doctors. At the moment there are five open contract doctor's seats for dermatologists and around 4,300 resident doctors and psychotherapists in Thuringia, which shows that there are still gaps despite a broad offer.

professional environment and challenges

Vocational training as a dermatologist in Thuringia is demanding. After studying medicine of 12 semesters, a five-year assistance time must follow before qualifying to become a specialist in skin and venereal diseases. Dermatologists treat a variety of clinical pictures, from skin tumors to allergies to aesthetic concerns such as scar corrections. Empathy and patience are just as popular as medical knowledge.

Current trends show that young doctors are often faced with financial and bureaucratic hurdles, which makes their practical opening difficult. Minister of Health Werner speaks of promotional programs for new medical practices in under -provisioned regions, but many experts emphasize that these efforts are not sufficient to solve the entire problem of the long of the doctor. The exuberant bureaucracy and the lack of digitization are also mentioned as challenges.

The new dermatologist practice in Elxleben is a bright spot on the way to better medical care and represents an important part of the commitment to sustainably improve the healthcare system in Thuringia. Through innovative approaches and the support of prospective doctors, the medical landscape could look much more positive in the coming years.
