Alliance for Democracy: Nomination for the Commitment Prize 2025!

There is reason to be happy in the Hildburghausen district: This Alliance for Democracy and Cosmopolitanism Veßra Monastery was nominated for the renowned German Engagement Prize 2025. This award is considered the most important of its kind for civic engagement in Germany and has been awarded since 2009. A real highlight for the alliance, which recently celebrated its tenth anniversary in the church in Themar!

But what makes the German Engagement Prize so special? It is awarded in various categories, including “Creating Opportunities”, “Living Togetherness” and “Strengthening Democracy”. There will also be an audience award, for which online voting will start in autumn 2025. In recent years, numerous organizations have been able to apply for the award, which impressively reflects the diversity of volunteer work.

From the expert jury to the award ceremony

An expert jury will select the winners of the German Engagement Prize, while the award ceremony is scheduled for December 5, 2025 in Berlin. This year the prize is endowed with 10,000 euros, which represents an additional incentive for the participating organizations. The price is initiated by Alliance for Non-Profits and also receives support from the Federal Ministry for Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ).

An overview of the last winners of the audience award shows the great response to the commitment in Germany. In 2025, the votes for the alliance from Veßra Monastery could also be decisive in the race for the coveted places in order to further make their own commitment visible.

The diversity of volunteering

In total, the German Engagement Prize connects around 650 engagement competitions in Germany and actively promotes the visibility and diversity of volunteer work. What is particularly noteworthy is that nomination for the award is only possible if the organization in question is among the first place winners in one of the many regional awards presented each year. All of this ensures that the German Engagement Prize is a reflection of civic engagement in Germany.

A look at the previous audience award winners shows how different the projects applying for the award are. For example, the parent network mixed bag e.V. and Stevie's Hundesenioren-Hospiz e.V. took first places in previous years. The competition also promises exciting insights into the diversity of voluntary commitment in the future.

It remains to be seen whether the Veßra Monastery Alliance for Democracy and Cosmopolitanism will succeed in securing one of the coveted prizes. But one thing is certain: commitment in the Hildburghausen district makes an important difference and contributes to strengthening the community. Stay tuned to find out who ultimately receives the award!
