On July 17, 2025, there was an important milestone in the Thuringian economic area: N3 Engine Overhaul Services, a joint venture between Lufthansa Technik and Rolls-Royce plc, broke ground for an important new logistics center at Erfurter Kreuz. This innovative project not only promises to improve the region's infrastructure, but also brings a breath of fresh air to the industry.
The logistics center will comprise an impressive three-story building complex covering an area of 19,500 square meters. At the center of the new facility is a state-of-the-art, fully automated high-bay warehouse that is 26 meters high and around 123 meters long. Expansion and investment
As Thuringia's Economics Minister Wolfgang Tiefensee emphasized during the celebrations, this is the largest sub-project as part of an ongoing expansion program on the factory premises. A total of around 150 million euros will be invested in the expansion, which will increase the company's capacity to up to 250 engines per year. In 2023, 132 engines have already been overhauled, and for 2024 N3 aims to increase capacity by up to 50%, taking into account the growing demands of the market.
In addition to the logistics center, the construction of a cleaning system for engine components is also in full swing, the process capacities of which are to be doubled. The construction of a new 6,000 m² block will create additional technical processing centers and assembly areas. Jobs and qualifications
The new logistics center will not only introduce new technologies and processes, but also create jobs for the local population. Office and social rooms with changing rooms for around 560 employees as well as workstations for over 30 employees are planned. N3 has already launched its own qualification program for career changers and has been training specialists in six different professions since the start of operations, which in turn strengthens the regional economy.
