Pedelec driver in Kall: Seriously injured after crash with car!
A traffic accident occurred on Wednesday morning, July 9th, in Kall, which had tragic consequences for a Pedelec rider. At around 7:50 a.m., a 43-year-old cyclist from Schleiden wanted to cross the Hüttenstrasse/Zinnstrasse intersection when she overlooked a car coming from the right. The 39-year-old car driver was on Hüttenstrasse, which had the right of way, which led to a serious collision. The impact caused the cyclist to fall and she was injured. The emergency services called immediately took her to the hospital Tixio reported.
In recent years there has been an increase in traffic accidents involving cyclists, especially those with pedelecs. The figures show that one in six traffic fatalities in Germany is a cyclist. Older people who use e-bikes more often are particularly at risk. In 2024, 441 cyclists died on the roads, and an alarming proportion of those accidents resulted from collisions with cars, like this RND shows.
Statistics on cycling accidents and challenges for cyclists
The situation for cyclists in Germany remains tense. Statistics show that around 92,882 bicycle accidents resulting in personal injury were registered in 2024. This equates to a less safe environment for cyclists who move in a traffic environment that is often perceived as uninviting. The ADFC warns that better cycle paths are necessary as many existing paths are in poor condition.
Unfortunately, the cyclist in Kall is not an isolated case in these worrying statistics. Many accidents occur at intersections where visibility is often unclear. The more difficult conditions resulting from the faster e-bikes add to the danger.
The incident in Kall once again underlines the need for safety measures and better infrastructure so that cyclists can continue to be safer on the road in the future. The districts and municipalities are called upon to improve the framework conditions for cycling so that such accidents can be avoided in the future.
