On August 16, 2025 there was a car fire on the A71 between Ilmenau and Suhl. The fire brigade was quickly deployed and there were no injuries.

Late on Saturday afternoon there was a car fire between the Rennsteig Tunnel and the Alte Burg Tunnel in the direction of Suhl. Drivers quickly called the Suhl fire department for help, which arrived immediately.
A total of 15 firefighters were on site within just six minutes to bring the fire under control. The flames were quickly contained using respiratory protection and foam agents. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported in the incident. While the fire was being fought, the highway had to be completely closed in both directions – better safe than sorry!
