Storm alarm in Bavaria: Strong thunderstorms and hail are threatening!

In Bavaria today, on July 14, 2025, attention is made! The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued a comprehensive weather warning. Strong thunderstorms and sometimes heavy showers are moving across the state from west to east today. Therefore, people are urged to exercise caution. Anyone who spends time outdoors should be careful, as there is a risk of not only heavy rain, but also storms with speeds of up to 80 km/h.

The current weather situation is influenced by a low pressure area west of the British Isles that is bringing warm, moist air to Bavaria, as the DWD mentions in an updated report. The amount of rain can locally reach up to 20 liters per square meter in a short period of time, although in the second half of the day heavy rain of up to 40 liters per square meter and hail up to 2 cm in size are possible. Severe weather warnings are in effect until at least 4 p.m.

Regional warnings

The districts of Dingolfing-Landau, Freising, Kelheim and Landshut are particularly badly affected, all of which are under the level 2 severe weather warning (strong thunderstorms). Things look even more serious for the Kitzingen district and the Würzburg area, where level 3 (violent thunderstorms and heavy rain) has been declared. Thunderstorms with intense rainfall and possibly hail can be expected here.

The following counties are also affected:

  • Dingolfing-Landau
  • Freising
  • Kelheim
  • Landshut (Kreis und Stadt)
  • Landsberg am Lech
  • Neuburg-Schrobenhausen
  • Regensburg (Kreis und Stadt)
  • Schwandorf
  • Würzburg (Kreis und Stadt)
  • … und viele mehr.

Security measures and outlook

The weather not only poses dangerous thunderstorms, but also a high risk of lightning strikes as well as falling trees and high-voltage lines. In addition, flying objects and flooding of streets and basements can cause serious damage. It is advisable to ensure that all windows and doors are securely closed and that vulnerable outdoor items are secured.

In the later hours of the day, the storm front is expected to calm down, they should subside in the first half of the night. But the DWD already gives a first outlook for tomorrow: On Tuesday, July 15th, similar weather conditions could reappear, which is why the population should remain up to date. The next updates of the warning position can be expected at 8:30 p.m. at the latest, as well as on the website of the DWD can be read.
