Arnstadt-Ilmenau Adult Education Center: Colorful autumn semester begins!

The Arnstadt-Ilmenau adult education center is ringing in the new educational season with a colorful autumn semester. Deputy Director Sarah Such, District Administrator Petra Enders and Division Manager Teresa Knittel recently worked to present the facility's extensive range of courses. The adult education center is a proven place for lifelong learning that offers citizens in the region a wide range of opportunities for personal and professional development. Last spring semester, over 350 courses were offered, in which a total of 3,739 people took part - 242 of whom were under 16 years old. The majority of the courses took place in person, but seven online offerings were also on the program. This mixed offering appeals to different learning styles and life situations.

But what is behind the increasing popularity of further training offers? According to an analysis by the education report, participation in educational offerings in Germany was 58% in 2022, which represents a noticeable increase compared to previous years. What is particularly noteworthy is that 86% of those surveyed in 2022 stated that they had taken part in further training courses. The adult education centers, which make up a total of 845 institutions in Germany, are also enjoying growing popularity - not least in the areas of health and languages, which are very popular. Over 75% of the participants are women.

Educational leave and professional development

A central concern of adult education centers is to promote continuing vocational training. The world of work is changing rapidly due to new technologies and globalization, which presents employees with new challenges. In this context, adult education centers offer educational leave measures that enable employees to take up to five days off work per year to take part in these courses. However, these regulations are federally regulated, which means that the exact regulations vary from state to state. In Bavaria and Saxony, for example, there are no state exemption measures for this type of further training.

It is worth clarifying the exemption with your employer before booking courses. The costs for the courses must also be borne by the participants themselves. Depending on the federal state, the offers can have different names: For example, there is “education time” in Bremen or “educational exemption” in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Special regulations apply to civil servants with regard to special leave.

The range of courses on offer is wide-ranging: rhetoric, software training, language courses and health care are just some of the topics that adult education centers cover. Taking mental strength into account is at least as important in today's stressful times. Many courses not only take place on site, but also in attractive health resorts or in nature, which can further increase the learning effect.

The fall semester is just around the corner and promises many interesting opportunities for everyone who wants to develop personally or professionally.
