Happy end for crocodile buttons: new home in sight!

Happy end for crocodile buttons: new home in sight!
A warm happy ending for buttons, the 2.50 meter long and 60 kilogram bump crocodile from Nordhausen. After ten years inadequate attitude in an allotment garden, the animal now had to move to a suitable environment. The owners Gabi Decker (59) and Peter Eckardt (75) were forced to give up buttons, since they could not raise the funds necessary for the species -appropriate attitude, especially for a large bathing pool. The authorities put buttons in the care of the reptile sanctuary in Munich in mid -June, where it is now well cared for on 12 square meters. Dr. Markus Baur (64), the head of the catchment station, informs that Knöpfchen found an appropriate home there after all European zoos and zoo were informed of the situation.
As from a report by mdr , Knöpfchen was not the only animal that was kept in the private allotment garden on the Gumpental. In addition to the crocodile, anacondas, Boas, a cobra and a glasses snake also lived there. These animals came from a former reptile zoo in Nordhausen, which was closed ten years ago. The owners could no longer fulfill the requirements for the attitude of exotic animals, which ultimately led to the veterinary office had to confiscate the animals.
different inquiries from Europe
like Dr. Baur reported, no prospective customers were found for buttons. In the meantime, however, two reptile zoos have registered, including the crocodile zoo Protivine in the Czech Republic and the Zoo crocodile in Denmark. The final decision on Knöpfchen's new home lies at the Lower Nature Conservation Authority of the Nordhausen district office, which has to order several certificates and the exchange of Knöpfchen microchip.
The problems that led to Knöpfchen's delivery are not an isolated case. Owls urgently need to make sure that the keeping conditions for reptiles are met. According to the Animal protection law , animals must be fed, nourished and accommodated. Movement restrictions may not cause pain or suffering. Many reptiles need specific climate conditions to stay healthy because they are warm animals whose life functions depend heavily on the ambient temperature.
The topic of attitude of exotic animals brings regular challenges, and as in the case of buttons, it becomes clear that not every holder is prepared for the necessary requirements. A responsible attitude and compliance with requirements are essential so that such animals do not get into unsustainable situations.
