Shocking accident in Hermsdorf: 87-year-old loses control of Opel!

On Saturday afternoon, July 6, 2025, there was a traffic accident in Hermsdorf that called the police and a rescue unit to the scene on Hermann-Sachse-Straße. An 87-year-old Opel driver was on his way towards Eisenberger Straße when he suddenly had health problems. In the high temperatures, his circuits got out of control, which led to a loss of control of the vehicle. As a result, his Opel drifted off the road to the left and hit a parked Dacia.

The collision continued: After the collision with the Dacia, the Opel rolled to the right and crashed into a fence. Fortunately, the driver remained relatively uninjured despite the dramatic incident and only suffered minor bruises. However, the two vehicles and the fencing suffered significant material damage, which is why both the Opel and the Dacia had to be towed away. The police therefore urgently warn against increased caution in road traffic, especially on hot days when the risk of health problems increases, as news.de reports.

Another accident on the A4

Another incident that also drew attention in the Hermsdorf region occurred on Monday afternoon, November 20, 2023. A 50-year-old driver of a Skoda came off the road on the A4, between the Ottendorf-Okrilla and Hermsdorf junctions, for reasons that are still unclear. His vehicle first crashed into the guard rails before spinning into the exit lane of a parking lot, where it collided with a tar machine. This parking lot is currently closed due to construction, which caused additional complications. The incident resulted in the Skoda driver and two construction workers having to be taken to hospital, some of them seriously injured.

The Ottendorf-Okrilla volunteer fire department was quickly on the scene to secure the scene of the accident, collect supplies and support the rescue service. The material damage to the Skoda and the tar machine is estimated at around 110,000 euros, while the Skoda was a total loss. Reports about the diversion of traffic confirm that there was a brief traffic jam in the direction of Dresden. The police are now investigating the exact cause of the accident and are looking for witnesses to the incident who should report to the traffic police inspection, as reported on blick.de.

Statistical backgrounds

The frequent accidents on German roads raise the question of road safety. The Statistics from the Federal Statistical Office aim to provide comprehensive documentation of the accident situation. They contain information about accidents, vehicles involved as well as those involved in the accident and the causes of the accident. This data is not only important for legislation, but also serves to improve traffic education and road construction. A careful look at such statistics can help to better understand the structures of accident events and the dependencies mentioned.
