Catastrophic lifted: Saalfeld forest fire under control!

Currently around 60 firefighters and helpers are in action who work with portable thermal imaging cameras and are supported by drones that fly over the area to detect hidden embers. The number of emergency services will probably remain constant in the coming days. In addition, the criminal police have already started investigations into the cause of the fire and asks the population for information, especially for photos or videos from the fire location.

The forest fire, which broke out near Gösselsdorf on Wednesday last week, caused a sensation in its dimension. With at least 250 hectares, this has been the largest forest fire area in Thuringia for around 30 years. At peak times there were even over 650 firefighters and other helpers, which underlines the drama of the situation.
