Neptune Festival in the Saalfeld outdoor pool: games, fun and underwater adventure!
On June 27, 2025, the traditional Neptune Festival will be celebrated in the Saalfeld outdoor pool, and the anticipation couldn't be greater. Organized by Saalfelder Bäder GmbH, the festival will take place from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. and offers a colorful program for children and families.
The Neptune Festival is a fun baptism that welcomes children and young people into the realm of Neptune, the god of the sea. This tradition has its roots primarily in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and is often celebrated at bathing lakes or beaches, with the outdoor pool in Saalfeld now offering a new highlight. With a colorful spectrum of activities from sports and games to competitions such as a 65 meter slide race, an ass bomb contest and an underwater treasure hunt, participants can expect an unforgettable day.
Baptism and competitions
The competitions are an absolute highlight of the festival. Children can show off their skills by paddling, water shoveling and duck fishing. A special attraction is the baptism ceremony with Neptune, who will reward the children with a personal baptism certificate. What is typical for the Neptune Festival is that, similar to the equator baptism from seafaring, those being baptized are confronted with an unsightly drink and then “thrown” into the water. The festival promises both fun and a little thrill for the youngest.
Regular admission prices apply for access to the outdoor pool, making the event affordable for many families. The festival is not only a celebration of water, but also promotes community spirit and invites people to spend time together and create memories.
Other events in the region
In addition to the Neptune Festival, there are other exciting events on the agenda in Saalfeld and the surrounding area. On June 26th and 27th, Katharina König-Preuss will be traveling in a citizens' bus to seek exchanges with citizens. Information stands are planned in Saalfeld as well as in Rudolstadt, Pößneck and Bad Lobenstein. The residents' meeting in Großkochberg on June 25th will also address interesting topics such as an open-space photovoltaic system.
Another highlight is the circus project at the Rudolstadt-West elementary school, which attracted attention with a large tent and three gala performances. The solidarity of parents and private sponsors made it possible to realize this exciting project.
Finally, the 9th Children's Culture Festival (KiKuFe) is just around the corner, for which registrations are open until July 10th. Here children and young people can take part in various workshops and present their talent at a big final show.
The Neptune Festival in Saalfeld and the diverse events in the region show that there is “something going on” here and that the community is being celebrated - one more reason to mark June 27th in your calendar!
