Bakery Hill opens in the Goethe Park Center: A new treat!
Freshly fragrant bread and sweet pastries – that’s what many Cologne residents can expect from the Hill bakery. On July 3, 2025, the new Hill Bakery opened its doors in the Goethe Park Center in Bad Salzungen. This new opening is the result of a transition, as the Eichholz GmbH bakery from Mihla previously operated the baking stand in the center. But the economic unprofitability and the announcement of the withdrawal of the last branch made room for a breath of fresh air.
The Goethe Park Center, which was built in 1996/97, covers an area of an impressive 10,000 square meters. With the addition of Hill Bakery, there is now once again a place where foodies can purchase their daily bread and more.
The new Hill Bakery
The Hill Bakery, based at Michaelisstrasse 3 in Bad Salzungen, has already made a name for itself in the region. The bakery received a rating of 4.1 from Google users, indicating good customer satisfaction. The patient staff who ensure fast service are particularly appreciated. However, there remains a small downer: the baking stand is cash only and not barrier-free accessible.
Opening hours are generous: Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., while closed on Sundays. If you don't want to try it on site, you have the option of delivery or take-away - which makes the hearts of many bakery fans beat faster.
Market development in the bakery trade
This positive development comes at a time when the bakery trade in Germany is facing challenges. The number of bakeries has been declining, particularly since 2018, and sales are decreasing by around 0.3% annually. These falling numbers are primarily due to the economic conditions, such as the corona pandemic and the war in Ukraine, which led to an increase in the price of raw materials and dampened demand.
Another aspect is that smaller companies are often up to their necks, while large companies can gain market share. The shift toward snack culture and consumers' growing health consciousness are fueling the need for high-quality products, which is becoming a challenge for many traditional bakeries.
But despite these adverse circumstances, the bakery trade does not stand still. Forecasts show that moderate growth of around 0.8% annually is possible until 2027. This means that the new Hill Bakery could also play a role in the constantly changing bakery environment.
The colorful rolls and fragrant loaves of bread that are now offered in the Goethe Park Center invite you to discover the fresh products and new offers. Maybe the Hill Bakery will become the new favorite place to stay for many people from Bad Salzung and Cologne.
