Roßdorf and Schmalkalden elementary schools celebrate with new jerseys!
The 17th primary school football tournament for the districts of Schmalkalden-Meiningen and Rhön-Grabfeld took place in picturesque Berkach on June 13, 2025. District Administrator Peggy Greiser was not only able to admire sporting talents, but also recognized two primary schools as monthly winners of the “Exercise Calendar 2024” campaign. As part of this campaign, the Roßdorf elementary school and the Schmalkalden elementary school each received a class set of jerseys that proudly display the Prachtregion logo. These honors are an important part of the initiative to promote movement among students in the district Rhoen Canal reported.
A look at the individual winners reveals a lot of creativity and effort. The Roßdorf elementary school won in November while they held an inspiring winter sports week in physical education classes. Among other things, roller boards and relay games were used, which not only promoted the joy of movement, but also strengthened the team spirit. The jerseys were handed over in the presence of school principal Annette Erichsen and were ceremoniously inaugurated at the soccer tournament.
Involvement in sporting activities
The Schmalkalden primary school, which received the award in October, used in-school ball-over-the-string tournaments for grades 2 to 4 and also worked with the Schmalkalder volleyball club to continue the movement theme of “Small Games”. Teacher Ilona Funke and sports teacher Tobias Eckhardt were present at this official handover, and they proudly presented the new jerseys at the tournament with their students LRA Schmalkalden-Meiningen also noted.
But the commitment doesn't end there. The Zella-Mehlis and Kaltenwestheim elementary schools also received sets of jerseys as part of the exercise calendar campaign to further promote participation and fun in sport. The exercise calendar was initiated by school sports coordinator Sebastian Hardt and is an excellent way to motivate students to be more physically active. The monthly award rewards schools for creative and sporting contributions that promote both team spirit and initiative.
Integration and goals of the exercise calendar
The “Exercise Calendar 2024” campaign, which is strongly supported by the district office, awards the most creative implementation of a sport from the German Sports Youth’s exercise calendar. This is intended to strengthen school sports offerings and promote awareness of exercise at school. The district office encourages other schools to take part in this valuable initiative, which not only benefits the children but also strengthens the entire classroom community.
The exercise calendar campaign shows impressive successes, such as the Frankenheim primary school, which was recognized for its innovative implementation of the June sports of rowing, canoeing and windsurfing. This involved working with roller boards and balance exercises, which really motivated the children. The monthly winner received a set of jerseys worth around 320 euros for their creative implementation, supported by the district office and the Rhön-Rennsteig-Sparkasse. Such successes underline that exercise is not only healthy, but also brings joy and promotes team spirit.
