Helios Clinic Meiningen cycles for climate protection and health!

The Helios Clinic Meiningen has now joined the nationwide city cycling competition, which has been running since June 14, 2025 and is scheduled to last three weeks. The aim of this campaign is not only to collect kilometers for climate protection, but also to promote your own health and improve the cycling infrastructure in the region. The clinic's team, which operates under the name “Team Helios”, is made up of committed employees of the facility. In addition to the clinic, the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district and numerous other cities and municipalities also take part in the competition, which has been held nationwide since 2008. This year, around 300,000 people from almost 900 municipalities are active nationwide and have already covered 60 million kilometers together, as the Federal Environment Agency emphasizes.

City cycling is more than just a simple cycling competition. It is an international initiative that aims to showcase the benefits of cycling in everyday life. Participants are invited to cycle as many kilometers as possible for work and private purposes. At the end, the most active teams and communities will be awarded prizes. Anyone who has ever ridden a bike knows that fresh air and exercise are a real blessing. Added to this is the flexibility and mobility that cycling brings with it. Traffic jams and parking stress are a thing of the past, but sufficient cycling infrastructure is essential to sustainably promote the switch to cycling. For this reason, local politicians are also encouraged to take part in city cycling themselves in order to understand through their own experiences what the cycling conditions are like in their own community.

Funding for cycling projects

An interesting side effect of this initiative are the funding programs that specifically strengthen cycling. According to information from klimaschutz.de, municipalities can use the RADar! Have trouble spots such as potholes reported in order to optimize the wheel conditions. There are also funding opportunities for cycling projects everywhere in Germany that are easy to apply for. The application is submitted in two steps: First, a project outline must be submitted, followed by an invitation to submit an application if the outline is suitable for funding. These projects have the potential to make cycling in the region even more attractive, which ultimately also supports climate protection.

The Helios Clinic and all participants invite the population to take part in this important campaign and cycle together for a better climate. It is not just a competition, but also an invitation to actively contribute to your own health and to improving the environment. Municipalities are also called upon to take advantage of the opportunities that city cycling and the associated funding offer. As you can see, there are many good reasons to get on a bike.
