New boss for Schmalkalden: Clinic is to be led out of the crisis!

Schmalkalden, Deutschland - The district council of Schmalkalden-Meiningen has now decided to rescue the financially stricken Elisabeth Clinic in Schmalkalden. From July 2025, the clinic will be led under new sponsorship, with the aim of securing medical care in the long term at the location. The company shares are transferred to the district by Kreiswerke Schmalkalden-Meiningen GmbH, which was decided without a vote against, only three members abstained.

Marc Reggentin, the 43 -year -old new managing director from Würzburg, will take over the operational business of the clinic and the MVZ health center by December 2025. With over 20 years of experience in hospital management, he is considered a real connoisseur of matter. Before his new challenge, Regenin has led numerous clinics and medical facilities. Thomas Fickel remains responsible for strategic management.

measures to stabilize

The takeover of the clinic follows the financial support from the district that had already been made, which provided 500,000 euros in the past year and granted another 2.5 million euros as a loan. Thanks to this support, this money does not have to be repaid as part of the takeover. The measure aims to avoid problems with other district companies, which also include the Meininger bus companies and the Schmalkalden city cleaning.

The strategic and operational reorientation of the clinic is planned. Supported by industry experts as well as the clinic management and the doctors, a new business concept is to be developed. The revision of business strategies is particularly important because, according to the German hospital company, up to 70 percent of hospitals expected a negative annual result last year.

Reform of the hospital landscape

Against the background of the planned reforms in the hospital landscape, which are due to enter into force in 2025, the change at the clinic tip becomes even more important. The introduction of a nationwide performance group system is intended to ensure more transparency in planning and also open up new ways for financing. In particular, the resolutions are regarded as a crucial paradigm shift, which is intended to ensure basic care in rural regions. This could also be an advantage for the Elisabeth Clinic, since it should concentrate on the quality of the supply and not just to maximize the number of cases.

Especially in times of change, it will be important for clinic management and employees to understand the new requirements and create appropriate structures. Smaller hospitals that focus on basic care could potentially strengthen, while larger facilities have to set new priorities.

Overall, it turns out that a good hand was proven in the district council. Everyone involved is now asked to work together on a sustainable concept for the Elisabeth Clinic and to ensure medical care in Schmalkalden sustainably. The new course in clinic management will certainly be pursued - not least by the approximately 300 employees, who largely hope for a positive development.
