Dementia Day in Meiningen: Education and support on September 24th.
Dementia Day on September 24, 2025 has already attracted a lot of attention and promises informative events around a serious and important topic – dementia. Dementia is one of the most common neuropsychiatric illnesses in old age. At the end of 2023, around 1.8 million people in Germany will be living with dementia, with around 445,000 new cases per year among people over 65 years old. What is particularly noteworthy is that the most common form of dementia is Alzheimer's disease, and experts assume that up to 2.7 million people over the age of 65 in Germany could be affected by 2050, due to demographic change. These alarming figures are supported by Rhoenkanal.
In the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district, “Dementia Day” will be honored on September 24th with a series of specially designed events at the district office in Meiningen. The aim of this event is to raise awareness through education about dementia and information about support services. Participation in the lectures and workshops is free - an attractive offer for carers of all ages, including spouses, children and young people, who would like to find out more about this sensitive area.
The program in detail
The program on September 24th is diverse and informative:

The lectures are offered as hybrid events – both on site and online. This flexibility also means that those with health restrictions or those interested from far away can also take part. Events like this are extremely important, especially in a country where the number of people suffering from dementia is constantly increasing, as Rhoenkanal notes.
Support and encouragement
Behind the scenes, Dementia Day is supported by the state program for Solidarity Living Together (LSZ) and receives support from the providers of the care base in Thuringia. These diverse offerings not only provide valuable information, but also practical tips to support those affected and their relatives. In a society that is increasingly focusing on the care of older people, it is important to provide the necessary information and resources.
There is currently no cure for dementia, but affected families can benefit from a variety of help and support offers, which will be explained in more detail during the event. Anyone who gets involved in Dementia Day makes a valuable contribution to society.
