Sonneberger Straße construction site: Neuhaus am Rennweg is being made fit!
Things are going quite well in Neuhaus am Rennweg at the moment: the construction of Sonneberger Straße is in full swing and is bringing a breath of fresh air to the region's infrastructure. The construction site is currently in the third year of the second construction phase Hafermann Bau GmbH responsible. An estimated 7,000 square meters of asphalt will have to be laid, which will require around 3,500 tons of material. Sven Hafermann, co-managing director of the company, assures that the work is on schedule, even if it is a little challenging due to extra work.
The progress of this project is particularly important because Sonneberger Straße is not only a main traffic axis, but also the access road to the glassworks in Ernstthal. However, the condition of the road leaves something to be desired: wear and tear causes noise and vibrations for residents. The measures the city is taking to renew the street and its ancillary facilities are all the more crucial. This includes replacing sidewalks, street lighting, fire hydrants and barrier-free bus stops.
Public investments and challenges
On June 19, 2023, the city council held a meeting to discuss budget and financial plan solutions. Due to its priority, the implementation of the community measure for Sonneberger Strasse even took precedence over other urgent construction measures. Construction was originally scheduled to begin on September 11, 2023, but in fact the road construction project will not officially start until spring 2024, while the work is scheduled to last until December 31, 2025. During this time, a partial closure of the road is planned, which poses challenges for both residents and commuters.
The city is also planning to invest in sewer construction, as there are many residents who do not yet have a connection to the public sewer system. The drinking water house connections are also being replaced, as there have been numerous burst pipes recently. This also means commitment for the residents: After the construction company has been commissioned, a residents' meeting will be held to inform everyone in good time.
Construction spending and the economic situation
The situation in the construction industry is generally tense, according to a recent analysis by bauindustrie.de shows. Public construction investment has suffered from pressure, particularly in recent years. High construction price increases and the financial situation of some cities and municipalities bring additional challenges. Prior to 2023, there was a notable decline in construction spending of 62% in five years, further complicating the situation.
The net fixed investments in the building infrastructure show a decline in value, although construction expenditure achieved positive values over a period of 33 years. This suggests that the need for investment in Germany is high. So there is a lot at stake, not just for the roads but also for the well-being of local residents.
Overall, it remains exciting to see how the construction work in Neuhaus am Rennweg is progressing and how the city is mastering these challenges for its citizens. Patience and understanding will be required in the coming months, but with the right hand, Sonneberger Strasse will soon shine in new splendor.
