Sleeping Beauty awakens the magic in the Sonneberg Toy Museum!
It will soon be magical again in Sonneberg! On September 20, 2025, the German Toy Museum invites you to International Children's Day to bring the motto “Sleeping Beauty & the Spindle” to life with an exciting event. From 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., visitors young and old have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of fairy tales. The event is organized by the Sonneberg Museum and History Association in collaboration with the German Toy Museum, and anticipation is great.
A highlight of the afternoon are Traudel Garg's reading hours, which take place at 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Here children can enjoy the well-known story of “Sleeping Beauty”. But that's not all: After the readings, Sabine and Dagmar are available to demonstrate fairy tale knowledge and the art of spinning in an explanation and demonstration session. The presentation of a Takli spindle made of metal, which has its origins in India, will be particularly exciting.
Interactive experiences for the little ones
The event offers a diverse range of activities for the youngest visitors. Face painting, a fancy dress station with fairytale tattoos and a fairytale backdrop ensure an unforgettable experience. A new discovery sheet for children will also be presented in the museum, which features an exciting round of puzzles. This was made possible by a generous donation from the Rotary Club Sonneberg, which gives the event additional charm.
There is also a small welcome gift at the museum box office: sweets are waiting for the young explorers. Coffee and cake are offered on a donation basis, while pizza is available from neighboring 808080 from 4 p.m. The senses are pampered not only by the games, but also by the treats.
Special exhibition and other highlights
The German Toy Museum also has another highlight to offer with the special exhibition “Easy to Love – Plush Toys for Cuddling and Collecting from Plüti”, which will be on view until October 19, 2025. This exhibit is a must for all plush toy fans. The Sonneberg Fairy Tale Days, planned for November 2024, are also just around the corner and offer a variety of program items for families, kindergartens and schools, such as puppet shows and readings. These events are not only entertaining but also encourage a love of literature among the little ones.
The fairy tale world always surprises with new stories and old classics that are accessible from the age of 4, such as “Primrose” or “The Sweet Porridge”. These fairytale themes offer a mix of excitement, fantasy and educational content that delights both children and adults.
For everyone who is interested in fairy tales and their backgrounds, the event at the German Toy Museum is an excellent opportunity to immerse themselves in the fabulous world of stories. Don't miss the chance to experience unforgettable moments with your children!
