Jagdshofer season fights through heat battle at the Rennsteiglauf!

Last week, the feet tirelessly dragged in Thuringia, because the 25th Gutsmuths-Rennsteig relay race was just around the corner. VfR Jagdshof was at the start with its mixed relay, the "VfR Rennsteig-Challenge", and bravely beaten this gripping event. The planning for the relay start required a whole six months and was led by Andreas Wolf from Heinersdorf. At 5 a.m. we started at the foot of the Rennsteig in Hörschel - point landing to the starting shot!

The approximately 168 -kilometer route not only put the participants to the test, but also showed the skills of VfR Jagdshof. The runners carried orange shirts with the motto "Care without borders", which were made by Martin Schülein from Tettau. In the mixed ranking of the race, the season reached 42nd place and mastered the most demanding stage over the Inselsberg with almost 530 meters of altitude. After 17 hours and 15 minutes they crossed the destination in Blankenstein, exhausted but happy.

unique challenge

Especially the high temperatures were troubled by the participants. "You really had to bite there," reports a member of the season. Such temperatures can become an additional challenge for all athletes, especially on long distances like this. The race was equipped with ten stages that were well signposted before the start to make the way easier for the runners.

The relay race was not only a competition, but also a permanently anchored tradition. This event has been carried out for over 24 years and experienced a special turn this year: the 25th Rennsteig relay race took place for the last time. Backstage was intensive planning and organization behind the scenes, with those responsible to master both official requirements and financial challenges. Certainly it will be difficult to leave such a loved custom behind, especially the ritual, in which each participant gets a stone out of the Werra and throws into the Selbitz in Blankenstein to maintain the connection to tradition.

A look into the future

The organizer, the Gutsmuths-Rennsteiglaufverein e.V. together with Rennsteiglauf Sportmanagement & Touristik GmbH, but does not want to give up the idea of the relay race. There are already considerations of how to continue running on the Rennsteig, even if the organizers know that the challenges remain great.

For everyone who wants to prepare for the next challenge in sports, registration for the race 2025 is recommended. Current information, such as the extensive tender and details of the registration criteria, can be found on the website of the Rennsteig relay. Here can be set for the first course for participation in future events.

In conclusion, it is important to note that the Gutsmuths-Rennsteig relay race is not only a sporting event, but also a cultural highlight that brings together people from different regions. Despite the challenges, the organizers and the participants are already looking forward to new ways and opportunities to continue to celebrate the Rennsteig as a place of sporting cooperation.
